EPL Mid Season Awards

We are half way through the Premier league campaign and we have a much clearer picture what this year’s title race will become. So far Chelsea have been the only club to separate itself ahead of their closest rival (Liverpool) by five points after 20 games played. So let’s get started.

Best Team

As I mentioned, Chelsea are atop the Premier League table and they’ve done it with good defending and consistent play from their attackers. Chelsea have allowed the second-fewest goals allowed (15) and they’re third in goals scored (42). A big reason why Chelsea have manged to pull ahead has been the scoring of Diego Costa. He remains one of the league’s most hated players, but his knack for scoring is undeniable.

Although Costa’s form has been impressive, Alexis Sanchez has been the best player so far. He has come through for Arsenal when they’ve needed him with clutch goals and assists. He’s the only player in the top 10 in both categories (2nd and 4th respectively) and he provides a fight that Arsenal have long been criticized for lacking.

Best Goal

The two scorpions may be the obvious choices because of recency but I went back a few fixtures to the October 1st meeting between West Ham and Middlesbrough that gave us this Messi-esque work of art:

Dirtiest Play

Out of all the awards presented, this one was the easiest to decide on. It comes from the match between Chelsea and Manchester City. Sergio Aguero goes full WWE on David Luiz and the ensuing scuffle makes this one of the most memorable moments of the season. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the two meet again in April.

Best Match

The best match of this half season goes to Bob Bradley’s Swansea vs Crystal Palace that provided a NINE goal thriller for the ages. It’s worth watching the whole match but here’s the highlights in case you don’t have ninety minutes to spare.

After a fairy tale season, Leicester City have been a huge disappointment. After proving all of the doubters wrong and finally convincing us that they were for real, they have become who most of us thought they were last year.
